Monitoring, evaluating, and managing groundwater resources as well as determining the effects of anthropogenic or natural interventions all depend on the groundwater regime, which is a critical piece of data. When groundwater is withdrawn for any project, it may modify the groundwater regime conditions in and around the project region. A Water Impact Assessment measures such an impact in the vicinity of the project.
From compliance perspective, the Central Ground Water Authority has proposed a few requirements to comply with the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for groundwater extraction in order to analyze the changes in the groundwater regime and undertake management interventions appropriately for the sustainability of groundwater resources. Water Impact Assessment is one such mandatory requirements.
