Water Impact Assessment
Monitoring, evaluating, and managing groundwater resources as well as determining the effects of anthropogenic or natural interventions all depend on the groundwater regime, which is a critical piece of data. When groundwater is withdrawn for any project, it may modify the groundwater regime conditions in and around the project region. A Water Impact Assessment measures such an impact in the vicinity of the project.
From compliance perspective, the Central Ground Water Authority has proposed a few requirements to comply with the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for groundwater extraction in order to analyze the changes in the groundwater regime and undertake management interventions appropriately for the sustainability of groundwater resources. Water Impact Assessment is one such mandatory requirements.
Benefits of WIA in industries
► Avoids environmental violations – A WIA can help industries avoid violating laws and regulations that protect water resources
► Reduces environmental impacts – A WIA can help industries reduce the severity of environmental impacts, such as water pollution
► Identifies areas for improvement – A WIA can help industries identify areas where they can improve their water usage & efficiency
► Saves money – A WIA can help industries save money by identifying areas for improvement in their water usage and efficiency
► Involves the public – A WIA can provide a platform for the public to provide input on the environmental impacts of a project
► Promotes responsible environmental management – A WIA can help industries promote responsible environmental management
